What’s in the box?

A couple weeks ago, we launched a new look on UsedSoo

Since then, with the help of your feedback, our designers and programmers have been working non stop around the clock to give every UsedEverywhere site a face lift.

For fun, they’ve packed them in some handy crates and now they are sitting in the middle of the office, just waiting till Tuesday to be opened.

We all have the pre-gift jitters.

Michael and I have been working on new tutorials to help you with getting around the new look. And over the next while, we’ll start rolling them out.

If you’ve noticed that it’s been a little quiet here, on our facebook, and twitter, that’s why.

UsedTube – Charmaine

Are you a buyer or a seller? An individual or a local business? Everyone visits their local UsedEverywhere.com site for a different reason. If you’re a seller, you create content for others to browse, if you’re a buyer, you give sellers a reason to place their items on UsedEverywhere in the first place, and if you’re a business, you share your wares with the community and help to keep the online ecosystem running. We’ve been brainstorming ways that we can capture this diversity to share with you, and here it is: video interviews with people in your community that love buying neat things and making money as much as you do. This week we’re featuring Charmaine from Charmaine’s Past & Present in Victoria, BC. She’s and avid UsedVictoria.com user that uses the site to advertise her inventory to over half the population of Victoria for FREE!

Thanks Charmaine!

How To: Make The Most Of Earth Day

Earth Day is nigh! It was started in 1970 to inspire appreciation for the lovely trees, forest dwellers, ocean critters, and everything else that lives on the third rock from the sun. So naturally, this Thursday (April 22) we will be celebrating life with everyone else in the Northern Hemisphere, you in?

Whether you fancy yourself in the bright green camp and think technology will help us save the world, or are more in line with the dark green perspective and think we need radical political and technological change to reverse the problems we’ve created, there’s likely to be something you can get involved with. Ultimately, we’re all after the same end-goal: ecological sustainability.
Click on your province below and you’ll be taken to a list of Earth Day events in your community!

Michael’s Top Ten Ways To Look Better

With the launch and announcement of our new look on UsedSoo.com, we thought it would be appropriate to feature something similarly vain in this week’s Top Ten. What did we come up with? A list of things that will make you look good (dare we say better?). It’s our superficial end to a week of shameless self-promotion. Instructions: Take with a grain of salt and enjoy.

How To: Give Us Redesign Feedback

UsedSoo.com is the first UsedEverywhere site to showcase our new look. Do you love it or hate it? Is it confusing or intuitively simple? We want to know what you think and more importantly, why you think it. A lot of love went into the new design, but we’re willing to make whatever changes you deem necessary because you’re the one that has to find what you’re looking for and sell what you’ve grown tired of. You say “jump,” and we’ll say “how high.”

Here’s how you can help us make the site better:
Step 1) Check out UsedSoo.com and poke around. You might pretend you’re looking for a particular item. Do you know what category said item is in? Are you able to navigate through the categories and sub-categories? Can you do everything on the new site that you could using the old design?
Step 2) After you’ve experimented with the new design, click on one of the many banner or box ads that look just like the one posted below.
Step 3) You will be taken to a very short survey, which will ask you to rate your experience on a scale of 1 to 10. Easy enough, right?
Step 4) See real changes. We will be amalgamating everyone’s feedback to find the most popular suggestions and using those in future iterations of our design. Your opinion matters.
Voting starts now!

UsedSoo.com Has A New Look!

Have you been to The Soo lately? Sault Ste. Marie (to those who aren’t familiar with it) is a beautiful city wedged between the Great Lakes, and it has a new look! Well, actually we have a new look, but we’re showcasing it on UsedSoo.com tomorrow for everyone to see.

If you’re not from the area, you’re going to want to check it out anyway. You may not be in the best position to purchase from local sellers, but the new site layout that it’s sporting will be sweeping the UsedEverywhere.com nation. Sooner than later, all of our sites will be revamped in a similar way. Victoria, Regina, PEI, Winnipeg, and all of our other sites are getting a makeover.
You can see a teaser of the site in the picture below. Check out in tomorrow for full details on how to submit feedback and help us improve the site!

Top Ten “School’s Out For Summer” Items

The university year is over, and depending on what stage of life you’re in and your proximity to a university campus, that can mean several different things. For the newlyweds, it means great deals on apartments and couches as students attempt to clearance their living necessities before they go home for the summer. For the elders, it means stress-free bus rides and uncrowded city streets. And of course, for the students, it means making some extra cash by selling their junk online. Below are the top ten things you’ll be seeing a lot of on our site over the next month, because school’s out for summer.
10) Textbooks On Complicated Subjects Like Thermodynamics

1) Apartments Rented Out By Desperate Landlords

How To: UsedRants

Yesterday I announced our plan to launch UsedRants, a telephone hotline that you can phone and rant to about absolutely anything (even us!). Today, I’m going to tell you how to use it:

Step 1) Grab the nearest telephone, whether it’s on your wall or in your pocket.
Step 2) Dial 1-888-480-3250 (toll free, of course).
Step 3) Either wait for the gentleman’s voice to tell you what to do, or go ahead and press 6 on your number pad.
Step 4) RANT! We want to hear your complaints, your concerns, your praise, and your problems. Give us advice, promote yourself, tell us why you’re liberal/conservative or why you love the environment. The possibilities are endless!
Do keep in mind though, we’re here to spread the word and give you a platform to speak on, so whatever you say on the UsedRants may be posted on the internet for all to hear!

UsedRants Hotline

With so much going on in this complicated world, it’s no wonder people disagree. Social, political, and environmental issues alone are responsible for a countless number of healthy debates. That’s why we have those friends, moms, and online forums like Facebook. Everyone needs someone (or something) to vent to. What happens though, when you’re alone and the next big thing strikes your nerves? Will you blow up at the bus driver, scream at the sky, or honk your horn in the street? Enter the UsedRants Hotline. To do our part in controlling the chaos, we will be setting up a hotline this week that will be open to anyone who has a few moments to spare and something on their mind. Whether it’s a complaint or kudos about our site or the world, you’ll be able to speak your mind and have it heard. The most interesting rants will be posted on our blog, and the messages that contain constructive criticisms will be sent to the higher-ups. What do you think?

Stay tuned for the particulars.
